I think we should make challenges for each other, keep us all on track.

Ottie--do you mean a challenge aside from the 1,667 words a day imposed on us already??? You go, girlfriend! I can't wait to see how well you're going to do with NaNo this year.

I think we should make challenges for each other, keep us all on track. That is actually a really great idea!

I've signed up for a local area forum on the NaNo site and I'm hoping to make it to at least one write-in this year. Anyone doing the same? I went to one in my first year. While it was interesting to meet the people, I was frustrated by how little writing was done. Now I stay at home and write!

How is everyone's NaNoPrep going? I had one of those weird moments yesterday. One of the plot points is that the heroine's 'mother' (Ealswitha - King Ælfred’s Consort) is very religious and so supports Shara's 'dream'. I pictured her habitually reading from a small prayerbook. But then I thought 'did Anglo-Saxon ladies even have personal prayerbooks?' So off to Google I went and found that there is one in the British Library that is thought to have belonged to Ealswitha!!! (It is known as The Book of Nunnaminster.) So I am taking that as a sign...

My NaNo prep consists of a lot of index cards written in Scrivener and all chapters planned out. I've also got index cards for some of the main characters, but I'm running out of time and I might just have to pants the rest, come Thursday! How's everyone else doing?

I keep forgetting to come and visit the forum! Bad Vanessa!
I have my 30 chapters planned out, and when I say 'planned out', it's literally one sentence for each one, and some of those sentences are just locations rather than action! But still, it gives me some vague kind of structure.

Pantsing is awesome!
However I actually have a pretty well formed plan. I know what happens in the beginning, middle, and end, and it's actually written down. It's scary.
I have my main completely fleshed out, I know who he is, inside and out. I won't have to learn everything about him like my protag in AfP.
His love interest is known, and she is a hoot! She's going to kill herself, though.
The father, the central black moment, is not as well known. Why does he treat his son the way he does? The same as the mother. They simply do it is enough in real life, not in a book.
The car issue is my only big issue... I don't know what I'm going to do about it.
Seems like there's a fairly equal split between who is pantsing and who is planning. I AM THE MIDDLE GROUND.

Every time I go back over my character sketches something else occurs to me and that has led to new scenes, so the planning is going well.
My outline even includes an epilogue/lead-in to the next book with a jump to 4BC and an alien drone circling the Earth and Balthassar on the roof of his palace observing a strange new star...
So I'm feeling good!
