Ohh what are the Hunger Games like? I've seen SO many posts and blogs and reviews of it, but I'm not sure if I'll like it. What is it about?? It is SUCH a good series! I read the description and didn't think too much about it, but I had a couple of friends who were constantly going on about it so I finally caved and bought the first book. I read it in about a day and a half, and immediately bought the next 2 books from the trilogy and read each one of them in about a day and a half too. It was hard to put down. It is set in future America, they don't really specify how far in the future but it's so far that the shape of the continent has changed - California sank into the ocean and stuff. Anyway, it's post-apocalyptic (and America isn't "America" anymore, it's a country called Panem). Oh yes, really hard to put down. I read all three one week. Stayed up till 4 am every night, just about. I have to say the I was disappointed with book three, though. It didn't keep up the pace and suspense, in my opinion, but totally worth the read though!

The last thing I actually read was Moon Dance of the Samantha Moon series by J.R. Rain. I was in the middle of book two, but my library finally emailed me that they had I Am Not A Serial Killer by Dan Wells, so I'm reading that before I go back to Samantha Moon.

On my kindle I'm reading "The Ask and The Answer" the second of the Chaos Walking Trilogy by Patrick Ness. (I'm currently doing the final edit on my YA novel and wanted to 'keep my eye in' by reading some award-winning YA).
Graphically, over Christmas I read the first volume of Dark Horse's omnibus versions of "The Savage Sword of Conan" (took me back to my teens). I also read the gorgeous hardcover omnibus version of "The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen" (which includes Volumes 1 and 2 and some brilliant extras).
I am also re-reading Ken MacLeod's "Fall Revolution" series.
Oh, and on the poetry front, reading "A Ruthless Fidelity — Collected Poems of Douglas Livingstone".

Always a good plan to read something from a similar genre to your own! Ohh lovely, I have to say, I haven't read anything of these books! Maybe I'll have to do some investigating!

Ok, so I just finished 'Uglies' and LOVED it. Annoying thing is, 'Pretties' hasn't yet been delivered. But... 'The Hunger Games' has... Do I read book one.. or wait for book 2 of the Uglies series? Help!

I think I may have to do the same...although I'm unsure as yet whether my story will fit under YA. I believe it will, but I still have some kinks to work out. Way to aim for success!!

These are really good. I need to get back to them. I think Dime Store Magic or Industrial Magic was the last one I read. Yeah there good books although they do start to get a bit rubbish halfway through the series, concentrating on very minor character that just seem to grate on me, but I've been promised by a friend that they do get good again so I'm sticking to them. Have you read any of illona Andrews' books? they are a husband/wife writing team and have 2 series ongoing, one about shapeshifters and a mercenary and the other about a group of people that live in a place called the edge which is between the normal human world as we know it and the magical world. I highly recommend them

Help! The same thing happened to me! I read the Uglies and liked it so I ordered the other books but had to wait FOREVER, but I did read something else in between, I can't remember what though...

Hi! The last book I read was Caitlin Moran's 'How to be a Woman'. All about what really matters about being a feminist and Caitlin's tale of what it was like for her to grow up. Really clever, witty and made me think without being too dense on the feminist talk - there are a lot of anecdotes and it was really easy to read too. I also had a slightly embarrassing incident on the train in which I got very dirty looks from the other passengers when I repeatedly shrieked with mirth. Totally worth it. Has anyone else read it?

Haha oh dear! Being judged on the train isn't good. No, I haven't read it. If i'm honest I don't really read that much non-fiction. Do you think it's worth reading?

Oh Laura... I've just finished 'pretties' and don't be mad... I can't really be bothered to read the next two. I loved 'uglies' but I've been left feeling that I don't really care anymore! Is that terrible?
Is the third one good?? Sorryyyyy!
