Ohh what are the Hunger Games like? I've seen SO many posts and blogs and reviews of it, but I'm not sure if I'll like it. What is it about?? It is SUCH a good series! I read the description and didn't think too much about it, but I had a couple of friends who were constantly going on about it so I finally caved and bought the first book. I read it in about a day and a half, and immediately bought the next 2 books from the trilogy and read each one of them in about a day and a half too. It was hard to put down. It is set in future America, they don't really specify how far in the future but it's so far that the shape of the continent has changed - California sank into the ocean and stuff. Anyway, it's post-apocalyptic (and America isn't "America" anymore, it's a country called Panem). "The Capitol" is this rich city, full of silly futuristic people - odd hair and makeup and things like that - and The Capitol controls the 13 districts of Panem. The Capitol is really rich, and the people that live there basically have everything they could ever need, and more. But the 13 districts are all poor, the people there work to provide things for the Capitol, but never really prosper from the things they produce (or grow, mine, etc..) Anyway, 70-something years before the book takes place, the 13th district revolted against the Capitol. So since that event took place, as punishment the Capitol forces the remaining 12 districts to offer up (via a lottery) 1 boy and 1 girl tribute to fight in "The Hunger Games". It is a fight to the death, each year only 1 person can win the hunger games, because the rest are dead. It's SO good, I could seriously ramble on about this series for days. All of that that I typed above is pretty much summarized in the first few pages of the first book, it gets so much deeper than that. Of course the main character of the novel is participating in the hunger games, so it becomes very intense! Not to mention you begin to love other characters and ... you have no idea their fate. Oh my gosh its such a great trilogy! Ok I'll stop being a hunger games fan-girl now :-) Also The Uglies is REALLY good too, definitely recommend that. It's set about 300 years in the future I think. Everyone lives in big cities and are forced to take a surgery when they turn 16 so everyone can be "pretty" and everyone will get along...the people who run the city are basically evil doctors, and the head honcho is such a bad evil person - a great villain!

Haha, I know your pain Beth. I actually have a few book son my self that I haven't had time to read. I bought some of the Diskworld books to read. I read most of the 'first' one, and I wanted to read more the other day and realized I misplaced it.
I've heard great things about the series. So far it's pretty funny. I put first in quotes because you can start in any mini-series order, and even the author wrote some parts out of order, if i remember my research right.
I'm so glad that this semester is over. My next one is going to be even worse though, in work load. @.@

Oh, and about JDatE, there is a movie coming out of it this year. Not sure where all it will play, hopefully where you guys not in america can see it! I watched the trailer and it seems to follow the book exactly, the author says it does.
There is also another book of John and Dave's adventures coming out soon.
And if you ever want to see that you CAN make it by accident in the literary world, you should read the story of how this book was published.
...Which I can't find. I'll summarize. He wrote the novel and posted it online. It spread. He wrote more. People prited it off and shared it hand to hand. Printed it off again when their copies didn't come back. He got a publishing deal with a small company. People bought the book. Loaned it out, and bought another copy when it didn't come back. JDatE is now being made into the movie, at a larger publishing house because they bought the rights to the book, and he's working on a sequal.
You never know what's going to happen when you start writing your book, just go with it!

I love The Hunger Games so much (if you can't tell! haha) I really do recommend them. They are making it into a movie that will come out in March I think - from watching the trailer it looks like they have pretty much stayed with the story as it is written in the books. youtu.be/4S9a5V9ODuYI haven't read the Lightning Thief books, but I got the first one for my sister for Christmas because she loves the movie.

Beth, I just read the whole Hunger Games Trilogy, seriously just read them! They are dead cheap on kindle and absolute gems to read but if you still need more convincing I will lay out the plot for you trying to avoid spoilers:
Ok the world is in ruins and all that is left of America is the northern part which is split into 13 districts with the capitol in the middle. Each district is assigned some sort of manufacture or trade like coal, nuclear weapons, fishing, electronics, food etc. The capitol is where all the politicians and rich people live they dress wildly even dying there skin bright colours and have ridiculous fashion... anyway in the past district 13 rose up and started a rebellion on the capitol with other districts joining in. The capitol wiped them out completely and now there is no district 13 and all the other districts are downtrodden and live harshly. To remind the districts of there power the capitol now host the hunger games yearly this entails 1 boy and 1 girl aged 12-17 ( i think) from each district pulled out of a bowl they then have to go to the capitol and fight each other to the death in a specially crafted arena with many added traps that the "gamemakers" have put in. The last kid standing wins and in return gets given a house in the victory village and enough food and money to last them and there family a lifetime. The story follows a young girl called Katniss and a boy called Peeta along with a whole host of other characters including another love interest Gale (think team Edward, team Jacob but less angsty more heartbreaking ). So it follows their journey through the games and her eventually accidental defiance of the capitol this then leads into the further two books of the struggles she faces as the face of the revolution and the districts struggle to get control back from the capitol. Anyway I don't want to spoil too much just read them I will offer you a money back guarantee that you will enjoy them!

I'm currently reading the women of the otherworld series at the moment by Kelly Armstrong it starts with Bitten and goes from there. These are really good. I need to get back to them. I think Dime Store Magic or Industrial Magic was the last one I read.
