Hi, my name is Lorinda J. Taylor but I often go by TermiteWriter, and some of you may have encountered my blog or my Twitter account under that name. I write science fiction mixed with a good dose of fantasy, literary fiction, and in the immediately impending case, a great love story. Most of the books I'm about to publish include extraterrestrials who are giant intelligent termites. I'm been writing since 1969 (so you can guess at my age), when I was inspired by LotR. I took a long hiatus from writing in the 80's and 90's because of family problems, but since 2000 I've written a lot. I hope to find some interesting connections at this most interesting Limebirds website! Welcome to the Limebird Forums Lorinda! :) I'm looking forward to reading your posts and learning more about you. B

Hi Lorinda,
Welcome to Limebird! I notice you're in Colorado. I used to live in Denver for a while, and I really loved it. But I wound up back home in NH.
Your books sound very interesting! I will admit, I'm not that familiar with science fiction as I am mainly a mainstream fiction writer. But my hat is off to those who can write about science-y stuff and make it sound interesting!
Looking forward to seeing you around the forums. Limebirdkate

Hi, writers. My name is Maggie. I'm a retired teacher, a mom and a grandma. I have degrees in education with minors in English, French, and music. I love playing piano as well as teaching my grandchildren and my brother to play. In March of 2011 I self-published a book of poetry. Poetry is my writing niche, I write in traditional forms, and I seek others who do the same. I live in Michigan, USA where the weather is fickle and Lake Michigan is beautiful any time of year. I'm glad to be a Limebird writer.

Hello. My name is Tim Desmond. I thought I had joined in the past, but I had only gone through the process of replying with a comment or two. I am a recently retired high school science teacher, in Fresno, California. I suppose I discovered writing in Madera High School, and more seriously in 1965. That was in a first year college English course, at a small art school near Berkley. After that year, so much life interupted the education that I never attempted a novel length work until 1980. While I am embarrassed about what that work was, it never sold, it was a huge learning experience. The other more recent information may be found on a website at: timsfiction-art.com. I am not sure if I am navigating this site properly. Is this the correct box to introduce myself?

Hello Tim, and welcome!
Yes you are definitely in the right place.
Looking at your introduction, I am once again struck by the differences in the education systems. One thing that I have always thought is great about the US system is the ability to study a variety of subjects (at least in freshman year). I left school (in the UK) at 16 and everything I did after that was technical education (from my day release as an apprentice, through my degree, to my teacher training qualification). I think that the UK system would be a lot better if students could take a variety of courses when they are slightly older (rather than having to make decisions about professional direction at too early an age).
Will take a look at your website.
Best wishes,
Dennis

I am a wife, mother and grandmother, recently retired from a successful corporate career. Now I get to be the writer I always wanted to be. I've won a few short fiction contests, attended lots of writers' conferences, completed NaNoWriMo for the past seven years, and I'm working on two novels simultaneously. I also post to my blog almost daily - a good warm up exercise for a writing session.
Happy to be a part of Limebird!
