Some songs are just meant to be catchy. Some tell amazing stories to go with the beautiful, beautiful, voices. Let's share some of our new or old favorites! This one is A Lady Of A Certain Age by The Divine Comedy. Someone posted a link to this song on Twitter and I fell in love with it. I've played it probably 15 times in two days. I like it for, of course, his voice, but if you think about the Lady and see her pain, you can feel with her. www.youtube.com/watch?v=bU_bGYaa3FY&feature=plcp

Ahh, Divine Comedy. I still love the line "Generation sex respects the rights of girls who want to take their clothes off - as long as we can all watch, that's okay." I have a feeling the song was intended to have a more serious message, which was altogether lost on my pubescent mind from, what, 1998? I'd be happy to add nearly any song by Fountains of Wayne to this thread (or, at least, nearly any song from their album "Welcome, Interstate Managers"). However, if I had to pick one, it would be a song called "All Kinds of Time". This song confuses me - on the one hand, the lyrics are about a boy doing well at sport (presumably American football). But on the other hand, the tune is heart-wrenchingly sad. Let me know what you think. youtu.be/po2rkkLoESk

I do think there is a double layer to the song, Scree. The protag probably thinks he is at his prime. "The whole world is his tonight". This is the feeling I think we are trained to want, to have everyone want us. To forget we're insignificant, which we're also taught.
On the surface it's sad. His team is going to win. But I feel like he is losing something.
I want to write a story, haha.

Wow, I really like that song LordScree! I think i've heard it on TV before.
I love love love Ben Howard and his storytelling - 'Keep your head up' is a particular favourite. In terms of songs that tell stories, 'Small Bump' by Ed Sheeran is poignantly beautiful.

Beth you didn't post links and I am lazy! LOL I nearly said the same thing, but then I did actually look it up (maybe I am not as lazy as I had thought): youtu.be/ADP65wbBUpcI do like the line "But I realised all I was searching for was me." The description below the fountains of wayne song on youtube says it was used in Scrubs. However, I think I remember it being used at the end of an episode of How I Met Your Mother. I don't generally watch a lot of TV, so I may be wrong (my vice is gaming, though I have barely played any in the last two months Another song I love is Only In Dreams by Weezer. I once saw an awesome Cowboy Bebop compilation to the song, but I can't find it, so you'll have to make do with just the audio grooveshark.com/s/Only+In+Dreams/2Fdsom?src=5------------- PS if you haven't seen Cowboy Bebop, I highly recommend it. It's an animé series from the 90s about two bounty hunters called Jet and Spike and their travels (in space) within their ship the Bebop. There is also a film and even that is pretty good (I actually saw the film first, and loved it so much I saw the whole series) - an early Christmas present idea

Haha, I loved that song, Amber. Had great visions of time travel gone wrong. I was worried from the title I was going to be listening to a Burton-esque tale of zombie brides and dancing skeletons. But I was pleasantly surprised
