So, I've had an evening to myself, so I thought it would be fun to write a little story about how I think the Limebird was born. Let me know what you think and if it's any good, I'll write the next bit!
"In the middle of the woods, up the tallest oak tree there lived a little bird. One warm but crisp evening, that little bird was sleeping soundly, nuzzled in between her brothers and sisters in their warm, twig nest. Suddenly this little bird heard a strange noise.
Psst
Slowly opening her eyes and stretching her wings, she poked her eyes over the top of the warm, twig nest and looked around in the darkness to figure out the cause of the noise. Not able to see anything, the little bird slowly shut her eyes, and nuzzled back down in between the feathers.
Psst
The little bird's head jolted straight up, eyes shifty and suspicious, sure that she had definitely heard something this time. She peeked her tiny fluffy head over the top of the nest, being careful not to stretch too far. Blinking and trying to adjust to the darkness, she could just about make out a small shape down below, at the bottom of the tree.
Psst! The noise got louder.
Now this little bird had always been an adventurous one, so she shuffled her body out from underneath the rest of the birds, spread her wings out and flew down towards the stranger below.
As she got closer, feeling the wind blow through her feathers, she could see more of the mysterious stranger who had disturbed her sleep. She slowed up as she reached the ground and rested her feet a far enough distance away. Tilting her head, she tried to figure out what exactly this creature was, as she hadn't seen one before.
"Hello"', came out of the strange creature's mouth. The sudden break in silence made the little bird jump.
"Oh sorry I didn't mean to scare you. I just, I'm well... I'm lost..." He smiled at her bashfully.
"My mum says I'm not allowed to talk to strangers." The little bird suddenly felt unsure and stepped back.
"Well, I don't know where my mum is. I walked off to explore and then I turned around and she had gone and then I found your nest and I thought that maybe someone could help me." His lip started to tremble.
"Oh.. right. Well, you can come up to our nest if you like and see if you can see your mum from there?" The little bird felt a bit more comfortable now.
"Oh yes please," the stranger replied. "Oh.. but how will I get up there?"
"Can't you fly?" The little bird was confused, but she had wondered where his wings were.
"Well no, limes can't fly." He laughed.
To be continued.
