Round Robin This is a game I play with my kids whenever we’re on a long car trip, sitting in a restaurant waiting for our food, or if we’re hiking in the woods. Someone starts with 2-3 sentences. Then the next person continues the story with his/her own sentences (about 2-3). Round and round it goes until the story is done (or ‘til everyone gets bored). I also do this when I need to break writer’s block. I’ll email a few friends a sentence or two that I'm stuck on, and because they so desperately want to put me out of my misery, will play along until I am back into my story. (Definitely need patient, supportive, fun-loving, helpful friends for this!) Anyway, I thought I’d start a story here and see where we can all take it. Have fun! Annie's next-door neighbor, Miss Timmy, is a witch. Annie doesn’t dare tell her mother because she's afraid her mother will get her circle of friends to run Miss Timmy out of town. Annie doesn’t want Miss Timmy to leave, not when she’s promised to help her catch Nate McFadden for her very own.

Ahh this is a great idea Kate! Here is my next couple of sentences:
Ever since Annie met Nate, she was pretty convinced he was the best thing that ever lived. The only problem was, he didn’t even know she existed. He was part of the group of cool kids that road their bikes down by the park even when it was cold out.

Nate went with Sarah May to the school dance last fall, and Annie had watched them dance from her spot against the wall. Her eyes followed Nate as he pulled out Sarah's chair for her and went to get her a glass of punch. Sarah sat waiting at the table and locked eyes with Annie from across the room.

Annie stews about Sarah as she gets ready for school. Miss Timmy told Annie she needed a lock of Sarah's hair for the spell of catching Nate. Annie isn't quite sure what Sarah's hair had to do with it, but she doesn't care.
She will do whatever she needs to catch Nate for her very own.

At school, she spent the whole of her English class plotting how she could get close enough to Sarah without her suspecting anything.
It didn’t help that it was pretty obvious how much Sarah didn’t like Annie, so this was going to be difficult. Doodling ideas in her notebook, it suddenly came to her.

All she had to do was start a fight. It shouldn't be that hard; Sarah's best friend Maxine was shorter than a firecracker and she knew they were on the outs right now. She wrote a note and threw at Maxine's feet while everyone was listening to the teacher.

Maxine looked down at the floor quizzically. Just as she was about to reach down to pick up the note, the kid who lived in the trailer park, Darian, grabbed it first.
He smiled viciously as he read the note.
Darian's breath smelled like stinky cheese when he leaned over close to Annie and said,

'What's this about then An-nie?" He spat out the last syllable of her name and his breath made her recoil back.
"Nothing, give it back," she protested, trying to grab the piece of paper out of his hands. He smiled at her, clasped his hand tighter round the note and raised his hand to get the teacher's attention.
"Yes Darian?" Miss Jones asked.

"Annie's passing notes again," Darian said in a singsong voice.
Miss Jones put her hands on her hips. "Is this true, Annie?"
Suddenly, the bell rang, signaling the end of class. All the students jumped to their feet, grabbing their bags, and headed for the door. Annie joined in, making it out of the room before Miss Jones could stop her.
In the hallway, Annie realized Maxine was walking directly in front of her.
Annie quickened her pace and

Met Maxine and tried to talk to her, but Maxine looked down her nose at her, at first.
"I threw that note at you," She said softly.
Maxine sneered, "I know. Trying to get me in trouble."
"No no," Anne feigned shock. "I wanted to tell you about what Sarah has been saying behind you back."

Maxine narrowed her eyes. "You're lying."
Annie fought down her nervousness. "She said that she's only friends with you because you help her in Algebra and do the homework for her. If you weren't so smart, Sarah said she would have nothing to do with you because you have the personality of a toad."
Maxine didn't reply, but her face reddened. In an instant, she turned on her heel and stormed through the hall. Annie followed close behind.
Sarah was at the end of the hall, by the lockers, talking to a couple of girls Annie didn't know. Maxine went right up to Sarah and pushed her against the lockers.

Maxine and Sarah were at each others hair in no time, to Annie's delight. The teachers tried to pull them apart, and they succeeded- that's when Maxine's fist ripped out a bit of Sarah's hair. She looked into her hand disgusted and dropped it to the floor. While everyone was watching the teacher's cart the girls off, Annie stealthily picked it up; not everyone was only watching Maxine and Sarah.

Darian was at Annie's elbow. He snatched the hair out of Annie's hand. "Why do you want Sarah's hair, huh?" Annie whirled around. "Give it back!" "It's hair. Let's throw it away," he taunted and headed over to the wastebasket. She chased after him. "No!" She begged as he pretended to toss it away. He smiled, still clutching the precious hair. She glared at Darian, thinking that after she gets Miss Timmy to help her catch Nate, that she would get her to turn this creep into a garden slug. Darian said, looking at the hair in his hand. "I know all about your neighbor. The witch. I know she does weird things with salamanders and fish scales and..." he paused dramatically. "And hair." He smiled. "I'll let you have this hair if you make me your partner."

"What are you talking about?" Annie kept her eyes on the hair, watching it clasped in his hand, still not sure what to make of the situation. She didn't know how Darian knew about Miss Timmy, but she didn't want him to ruin it for her, she just wanted the hair back.
She took in a deep breath and said, " Ok Damian, tell you what. You can be my partner if you

ask Sarah to the Harvest Dance," she said holding out her hand for the lock of hair.
He laughed. "Why do I want to ask Sarah to the dance?"
"You don't. Just like I don't want to be your partner." Annie liked her idea more and more. Darian could keep Sarah away from Nate! That would have to make Miss Timmy's job easier, she told herself.
But a small worry crept into her mind. Miss Timmy had warned her about something. What was it? She'd told Annie not to do something, no matter how tempting it might be. Annie tried to remember Miss Timmy's warning, but couldn't think of what it was.
Darian interrupted her thoughts by giving her the lock of hair and holding out his hand. "Shake on it. I'll ask Sarah to the dance, and you'll make me your partner."
Annie recoiled at the thought of shaking his hand, but she did it, still worried that she was making a terrible mistake.
