Hi everyone, I'm Sally and I visited here after the lovely Beth was kind enough to visit my new blog and found it so friendly I'd really like to stick around. I've somehow jumped from being North London indie-kid and aspiring writer, to new mum in her early thirties and aspiring writer in the time it takes to listen to Belle and Sebastian's Jonathan David (...a few hundred times). About me: I went to Durham University so I could live in a castle; I love history and know more than a person should about the untimely ends of English monarchs; I will love indie music until the day I die; I ran the 2010 London marathon...and enjoyed it (with the exception of miles 21 to 26); I sing in a choral society where the average age is more than twice my own; I could kiss the person who invented private kareoke rooms; I'm one of six siblings born within a span of eight years (we are the Panayiotous of Enfield); to look at me you wouldn't believe I'm half greek as I have bright blue eyes and skin so pale it reflects the light; and I discovered just this past Sunday that the English version of my dad, Eracio's name is not Eric as we've been calling him all our lives, but Hercules. Yes, my dad's name is Hercules. Now I how do I broach this with my little girl Erica, who I named after him..? And of course I'm here because I love to write. I've published various data commentary articles in my day job as a social research director, but making stuff up is a lot more exciting. I recently published two tween e-books and I'm currently working on the first book in a new young adult paranormal series, which is at that flurries of excitement stage where each new redraft takes me deeper into this amazing world I've created. Finally, as you can tell by the length of this introduction - I could never be accused of being succinct, [sigh]. Hi Sally! Welcome aboard. You could write a book just on your family history, I love stuff like that. I eat it up. Enjoy yourself on the forums, poke around, post questions, chime in with suggestions, answers or advice! Hi, I'm German but write in English as I've lived here 20 years. I'm hoping to be published one day... my main writing is m/m erotica and I've added BDSM. So far I'm honing my skills with fanfiction, but Nanowrimo 2011 produced my first original 50 k words that need editing and tying to find a publisher for. Besides that I work full time and have a family to care for. so yeah, that's me... Welcome to Limebird! Sounds like you're a busy one! I know what writing, working full-time, and caring for a family is all about. I feel for you, but commend your dedication! Feel free to poke around the forums and post questions or offer up suggestions/advice! TTFN Limebirdkate

One manuscript currently being revised and several more crashing around in my head. Looking forward to staying in touch. Hi Charlotte, You got the winter that we here in New Hampshire, USA, are still waiting for!! Although it's been very cold this week, still no snow. Unbelievable. Feel free to roam the forums, ask questions, post topics, and all around have fun here! TTFN Limebirdkate

Hi I'm Raven. I'm new to writing, but I was directed here by whatever you'd call that: fate, God, the Universe. Sounds strange, but then that is my life. I definitely have a story or two to tell and I hope to help other Indie writers along the way! Hi Raven, Welcome to Limebird! We're very happy you've joined us. I'll say it's a combination of fate, God, and the Unverse--they often work as a team. Feel free to roam the forums, post topics, and in general have fun! TTFN Limebirdkate

Hi all, I am a 50 year old British man now living in Pretoria, South Africa (although I have moved around a lot, this is where I am planning on staying). I have always loved reading, but went many years without writing. (Here is a blog post that outlines a negative experience I had with an English teacher... bit.ly/fbG7Vw ). I started writing poetry again around six years ago and, after much nagging from my partner, finally published a collection in 2010. I heard about NaNoWriMo on 31st Oct 2010 and so jumped in without any preparation, but managed to finish! I left the novel to percolate and I am now finishing it off. In the meantime I wrote a range short stories, almost had one published in an anthology (as they loved it - but it didn't quite fit with what they wanted). I have also been concentrating of science fiction poetry rather than general (two of my poems being broadcast on www.starshipsofa.com ). Once my novel is sent off to a publisher I will be going back over my 2011 output and putting a collection of poems, short stories, drabbles etc. together. I also contribute a monthly film review to the StarShipSofa, looking at old movies, and an article of mine is in StarShipSofa Stories Volume 3. I read a lot, normally having something non-fiction on the go, something on my Kindle in my bag and something on paper by the bed. Currently that means "Trick or Treatment" by Edzard Ernst and Simon Singh, "The Ask and the Answer" by Patrick Ness on my Kindle and "The Stone Canal" by Ken MacLeod by the side of the bed. I tried for NaNoWriMo 2011, but didn't manage to cross the line due to work commitments and travel. However, I will be finishing the piece "Unmedicated" as a novella at some point in the future. I started a script a few years back, picturing it as an anime style movie. "Faerie Fire" has gone through a number of incarnations and may also come out as a novella, although probably not until early January 2013. I also enjoy painting, and an oil that I did in 2010 is the cover of "8 Million Stories" plus I have also completed a watercolour for "Talatu" which will be used if I have to go the self-publishing route. I think that's enough to be starting with! I'm looking forward to meeting you all. Hi Dennis, Welcome to Limebird. I have family who used to live in South Africa, and I've heard it's beautiful country. You seem to be well-versed in all kinds of artistic media! Hurray. I'm sure you'll have lots of interesting and valuable things to say. Feel free to roam the forums, post topics, and all around have a good time! TTFN Limebirdkate

TTFN Limebirdkate Thanks Kate, Although I originally trained as an engineer I have always been a bit 'arty' (I definitely didn't fit in with the leather elbow patch brigade when I was a student!). South Africa is a great place to be. It is beautiful, has a wonderful climate, and a range of peoples and cultures that make it a very interesting place to live.

Hello, I'm Charlotte and I have only just signed up to the forum because I'm terrible! I'm one of the Limebird writers and I'm trying to get into media and journalism so I'm not as knowledgeable about writing novels but I read a lot and am really looking forward to getting stuck into this forum! LimebirdCharlotte Hi Charlotte! *waves* You're not terrible. I always say 'better late than never!' It'll be great to hear your thoughts and suggestions and ideas! Limebirdkate Thanks Kate (and Beth!) I went on the forum before and all I saw was a wash of writery, novel-y posts but now I've looked a second time have seen loads of topics I can relate to! So I will be here a lot more.

Whereabouts in Canada are you from? I LOVE Canada, it's pretty much my fave place in the world. Yes, I really enjoy reading your blog! Fabulous, I hope we see you around these parts soon! I'm not sure I've figured out how to reply to message threads, so we'll see if this works! I live in Vancouver, on the west coast of Canada. My mother was from Devon so I have a very soft spot for England. And Devonshire clotted cream.

A tiny village not far from Dartmouth, and walking distance to Blackpool beach. Plenty of snow at Whistler this year - but very cold at the moment - so cold the skiers are sticking to the bars at the bottom of the lifts....

Hi everyone - I found Limebird via Charlotte Morganti - we earned our MFAs together in August, altho I live in the U.S. part of the Northwest rather than the Canadian part. (Scarily, we're the ones who legally tote guns.) Charlotte writes great mysteries , whereas my life for the past two years has been engrossed in historical fiction, researching 19th century American and German history, blacksmithing, carriage-making, Cleveland, Ohio! and wine-drinking (seriously, it's what they do in the Rheinpfalz part of Germany, and quite naturally, one thing they do in Cleveland). I've been blogging about it at clairegebben.com, and while I'm casting about for my next big project, I'm revising and submitting everything I've ever written. I also write about hair (yes, hair) at hairpisodes.com. I'm really glad Charlotte led me to Limebird -- it takes a global village to ... raise a writer.

Hello Claire and welcome to the Limebird Forum! Thanks for joining us! Ah yes, we know Charlotte well, she's a frequent flyer over at our site! Ohh lovely, where abouts are you from? Ah yes, I've had experience of going over the border and it was much scarier going from Canada to the US! My sister was studying in Windsor, ON and we went over to Detroit and it was definitely much easier coming back over! Oh fabulous, yes I've had a little look at your blog. Sounds like stuff that our very own LimebirdFrancesca would be very interested in. She loves history. Ohh wow, a blog about hair, that's definitely unique. I've just had a look, and I love your hair do on the first page. Gorgeous. I'm glad you came over too and what a great quote! B x

Hello Claire, Welcome to Limebird. Make yourself at home and post anything you like, and feel free to comment on other posts that you see. I live in the US also. I'm in NH, so way far away from you it would seem. I am quite intrigued by gun toting you do. You specifically, or people you know? I suddenly had an image of a girl on horseback carrying a folded notebook in her back pocket and a gun at her hip. Am I close? Anyway, hope you enjoy yourself and grand to meet you! Limebirdkate

Hi, my name is Lorinda J. Taylor but I often go by TermiteWriter, and some of you may have encountered my blog or my Twitter account under that name. I write science fiction mixed with a good dose of fantasy, literary fiction, and in the immediately impending case, a great love story. Most of the books I'm about to publish include extraterrestrials who are giant intelligent termites. I'm been writing since 1969 (so you can guess at my age), when I was inspired by LotR. I took a long hiatus from writing in the 80's and 90's because of family problems, but since 2000 I've written a lot. I hope to find some interesting connections at this most interesting Limebirds website!
