Thanks loupy, if I get stuck maybe I'll ask for help. I'm reading through the film analysis stuff at Yale film school's website and it's pretty heavy going.

Greeting Everyone! I've been a member now for over a month now, and I just now realized that I never introduced myself. Please forgive my lack of civility. I'm a perspiring writer. No, no...I mean aspiring writer. My favorite genre is science fiction and fantasy. Yet, due to a writing friend, I now read urban fantasy, which pairs nicely with my liking of horror. I've written many short stories, but none of them have been published. Soon, I hope. Novels are something I want to write, and this past November, I was involved in NaNoWriMo 2011. That was truly an experience. I wasn't able to complete the 50,000 words, but my word count was a personal best at 20,000. This year, I know I'll win because I've decided that 2012 will be the best year of my life. The one trait that all writers share is the love of reading. I enjoy reading and have done so for many years. Unfortunately, because of my love for books, I buy them faster than I can read them. I also write poetry. I started during my college days, many years ago and continue to do so. Finally, I also write a blog about my writing life, along with some samples of my work. Please, feel free to stop over and read some of it. Also, comment if you like. I can endure criticism. Having a tough skin is a prerequisite for being a writer. ;D

Hi Jeffrey. I did NaNo too. What a fabulous experience it was. I think anyone who took part and made the effort to write was a winner. I am just like you in that I keep buying books that look interesting when I still have masses to read. My to-be-read pile is enormous now and keeps on growing. I got a Kindle for Christmas and it is proving soooo addictive. The only trouble is, I am trying to concentrate on my own novel and also I have just started a writer's course and with having to go to the day job every day reading time is getting squeezed out at the moment which is a bit grim. Well done on the tough skin! I feel that is going to be my major problem as I would take criticism so personally and that's why I still haven't shown anyone my writing! The writing course is partly about having the guts to send work off to be critiqued for every assignment and taking the punches! Nice to meet you "formally"

Thank you for introducing yourself! Ohh lovely, I am also a big fan of fantasy! Ah yes, I also was a NaNo participant, utter madness! Ohh how great Jeffrey, you should share some of your poetry in the poetry section of the forum, I would love to hear some! Yes, I definitely agree that having a tough skin is important to be a writer. I hope we see more of you here! Bx

Hello, I'm Charlotte and I have only just signed up to the forum because I'm terrible!
I'm one of the Limebird writers and I'm trying to get into media and journalism so I'm not as knowledgeable about writing novels but I read a lot and am really looking forward to getting stuck into this forum!

Hello everyone! I can't remember when I signed up (sometime during Nano?), but I've been following Limebirds for awhile now and thought it was about time to introduce myself.
Writing is something I've always loved doing, but until now I never took it seriously. It was my outlet as a teenager when I wrote bad angsty poetry. I always told myself it was something I would do more of when I retired - writing, not bad angsty poetry. Recently I realized that if writing is truly what I want to do, I should do it now rather than wait.
I just completed Nano and wrote what I consider a zero draft of the first of three books. I gave myself a month off from the story to let my brain process what happened and to put some distance between me and the story. Now it's time for me to get busy editing. I thought this forum would be a great way to get help when problems arise (and they will) as well as to share and get feedback on poetry and short stories as I write them.
I read a little bit of everything. My all time favorite author is Amy Tan. I also like Terry Prachett, George RR Martin, Ray Bradbury, CS Lewis and many many more.

Fantastic, I'm glad you thought of us to help with any questions along the way, and please do feel free to ask away! I am also a big fan of Pratchett, but I have to say I haven't read anything by Amy Tan. Would I have heard of any of her work? Bx

I hope you share some of your poetry on here! Limebirdkate Hey Kate, Thought i'd jump in and answer this for you Terry Prachett is a he and he writes some brilliant fantasy books with lots of humour. His imagination is amazing i would love to have his head for a day anyway if your looking to read some his work i would pick something from his Discworld Series, Mort is my favorite it tells of a young boy sold to death to be his apprentice, i dont want to spoil it so i will stop there. As far as i know you can read any of the discworld books in any order its just that they all centre around the same universe. Here's a link to his site for you to have a look if interested. www.terrypratchettbooks.com/index.php/books#

Hi everyone, I'm Sally and I visited here after the lovely Beth was kind enough to visit my new blog and found it so friendly I'd really like to stick around.
I've somehow jumped from being North London indie-kid and aspiring writer, to new mum in her early thirties and aspiring writer in the time it takes to listen to Belle and Sebastian's Jonathan David (...a few hundred times).
About me: I went to Durham University so I could live in a castle; I love history and know more than a person should about the untimely ends of English monarchs; I will love indie music until the day I die; I ran the 2010 London marathon...and enjoyed it (with the exception of miles 21 to 26); I sing in a choral society where the average age is more than twice my own; I could kiss the person who invented private kareoke rooms; I'm one of six siblings born within a span of eight years (we are the Panayiotous of Enfield); to look at me you wouldn't believe I'm half greek as I have bright blue eyes and skin so pale it reflects the light; and I discovered just this past Sunday that the English version of my dad, Eracio's name is not Eric as we've been calling him all our lives, but Hercules. Yes, my dad's name is Hercules. Now I how do I broach this with my little girl Erica, who I named after him..?
And of course I'm here because I love to write. I've published various data commentary articles in my day job as a social research director, but making stuff up is a lot more exciting. I recently published two tween e-books and I'm currently working on the first book in a new young adult paranormal series, which is at that flurries of excitement stage where each new redraft takes me deeper into this amazing world I've created.
Finally, as you can tell by the length of this introduction - I could never be accused of being succinct, [sigh].

Aww thank you, that’s very kind of you to say. Whereabouts in North London do you come from? I work there! Are you still there now? Our very own LimebirdFrancesca is very similar to you, she also loves history (and I also have a love for indie music). Oh I am so very jealous of you being in a choral society! I really wanted to do something like Rock Choir, but no one wanted to go with me! Wow, Hercules, that’s awesome! I have just realised that you wrote Enfield, so ignore my earlier question about where in N.London you are from. I am the other side of Barnet! Ohh wow, that’s so cool that you have published two e-books, it all sounds really interesting. Where would we be able to see these? Well, succinct or otherwise, thank you for coming and please do have a nosey round! Bx
