For the folks that run NaNoWriMo, April is the month for ScriptFrenzy. I was just...recruited... about a couple of hours ago to sign-up for this. The goal is to write 100 pages or more, of a script for a play, movie, graphic novel, radio program, podcast, etc... My only experience in writing any kind of script was many, many years ago ( 7th Grade) when I wrote a "play" for my Drama Merit Badge while in the Boy Scouts. I reread it last year, when I came across it during some cleaning, and I just started laughing out loud. I'm not a William Shakespeare, but it might be fun to try....than to try not.

You definitely need to do it. *cheering and clapping*
I have never written a play, but there are a few people on these forums who certainly know a thing or two about scriptwriting. Maybe they'll join you!
Perhaps you know some tidbits to get people started? I might be interested in trying my hand at a script; I just don't know where to begin or what kinds of things to include.

I'm a newbie at scriptwriting, but the website is: www.scriptfrenzy.org. In their forums, they can lead an aspiring playwright in the right direction. I just signed up for it only 4 hours ago from a suggestion from my moderator of the NaNoWriMo region I'm in, and they have a thread for what software you could use, which by the way, is free. It's call Celtx and it's available at: www.celtx.com. It's all about formats, and it doesn't follow the standard literary manuscript layout. The event is still a few months away, but that might give me some time to pad my 52 week book reading challenge.

I just recently downloaded celtx after a recommendation on the forum, I've used it briefly to space out the few pages of comic I've written and I have to say it makes it look very professional and writing dialogue in it is very nice. I may have to try this challenge as I never got off the ground with nano. Thanks for sharing x

I thought about doing Script Frenzy but I've never done a script before, and it feels much more daunting to me than NaNo. I may try to put the scary behind me though.

I did major in film editing and screenwriting in college (though I have yet to get that pesky degree....6....classes....away sigh) and could help anyone. No way am I an expert but I'm pretty handy with a script , I guess. I recently got 3rd place in a contest with my husband so I guess that's kinda Ok-ish.
I think I will sign up for script frenzy this year too. I started to last year but for some reason never did, so yeah, count me in!
Also, Celtx is a really good program, it formats it for you and it's free (and formatting is VERY SPECIFIC with scripts, you can't really hope to get it by manually formatting in a word processing software, unless you want to give yourself a headache of course)

I'm glad that there is some interest being generated for ScriptFrenzy! I'm always willing to try new things...it might be crazy...but it keeps those neurons firing in our brains. All in all, it keeps us young, or for me, young at heart. This is an international event like NaNoWriMo, so I hope that I'll have writing buddies from all corners of the globe. Wait a minute, the globe is a sphere...so no corners, but wait, it could also have an infinite number of corners, but I digress... I guess what I'm trying to express is that writing can be a solitary activity, but, as NaNoWriMo has shown me, it can also be a community of creative individuals to share thoughts and feelings. We are a special group of folks who invent people, places, situations, and then write a story, or in this case...a script, about it and share it with the world. I'm glad to be a writer, and even more glad that I have fellow writers as friends. For those of you who do join the Frenzy, my profile name is Gersh if you would like to be writing buddies. There were approximately 20,000 participants last year, so sign up and lets increase that number.

Script Frenzy is about 8 hours away where I am. And I'm feeling so unprepared. Any last minute tips?

I'm with you Amber! My mind is completely blank. You're doing an adaptation didn't you say? Or something like that? Maybe? I could be hallucinating... if you are Just remember to keep in mind you're pretty much free to do what you like with the source material. Sometimes things are a whole lot better written down and won't translate well to the visual medium so it's ok to tweak them or remove them or whatever. The most standard structure is the three act structure. Act 1 will be about 25% of your script (so around 25 pages here) Act 2 will be about 50% and act 3 is about 25% Plot points are always good within your acts, they will help throw your story into a new and unexpected direction. Only write things that can be seen. I dunno those are just some things I can think off the top of my head! Good luck though, maybe you could send some mental telepathy to me in the form of an idea to write

-sends mental telepathy- And thanks for the tips. Anymore though, with how much stress I'm feeling I don't imagine I'll work that hard on SF. Not like I originally planned. And yeah it was an adaptation, I feel so great that you remembered that!
